Selena

She was a designer, singer and performer and broke down barriers in the music industry. She was the first Mexican American artist who was both traditional and modern. She brought together both worlds and brought Tejano music to the forefront. Her name was rising but her sudden death broke it. As is the norm when a brilliant, genial and young artist is lost too quickly, many mourned the potential that she could not yet reach. In the following years, people were inspired to work even harder to make sure that Selena's accomplishments would not go unnoticed. Selena was the Tejano performer who tragically shot to death in a shooting accident, sparked a Latino reaction that can be compared with the response to the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon's deaths. The music of Selena an artist who was hugely success throughout Latino communities across North America touched people young as well as old. Selena might have been described by certain people as the Latina Madonna, but she's still an excellent role model. Selena's off-stage family values and involvement with AIDS awareness programs provide a great example.
